Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) Testing

The term PFAs refers to the collection of Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. These are man-made organofluorine chemicals that have been widely used in industry and manufacturing since the 1940s, including applications such as protective treatments and polymer manufacturing.

All PFAS have at least one fully fluorinated methyl (–CF3) or methylene (–CF2–) group, with the carbon-fluorine bonds (C–F) imparting high thermal stability and resistance to degradation, making them useful in a wide variety of consumer products.

DNAL are establishing testing methods in a large variety of matrix types such as:

  • Soil and sediment
  • Fish Tissues, blood and biofluids
  • Waste
  • Water
  • Seaweed, plants, leaves and vegetables
  • Firefighting foams

Our laboratories use the latest technologies and methodologies to ensure Customers receive the most accurate and reliable results.

We are currently working with the following Methodologies:

  • EPA Method 537 For Drinking Water
  • ASTM D7979 for Waste and Surface waters
  • ASTM D7968 For Soils and routinely modified for other solids
  • DNAL also have experience of the European PFAS testing methods
  • DIN EN 17892
  • DIN 38407-42
  • EU 2023/915
  • EU 2022/1431

PFAs is a constantly evolving field. If you need a method specifically applied, or a method modified to a new matrix type we are always happy to help.
